Friendship Coverlet

Serendipity's Cutting Party

We are planning a similar party for our Friendship Coverlet Project!

So do not cut your squares apart until the party!

Yarn Calculations:

  • 16 EPI 16 inches wide in reed   = 256 ends

  • Square is 16 inches long plus 2 inches for cutting strip = 18 inches long per square

  • Allow 1 yard loom waste.
Although many of us can get by with less, this is a good number to give a margin of safety.

If making 13 squares -   The Tabby yarn calculations :

18 x 13 = 234 inches               divide by 36 = 6.5 yards

add 1 yard loom waste = 7.5 yards (warp length)

7.5 X 256 ends = 1920 yards warp thread

Assume balanced tabby - 3850 Total yds 5/2 perle cotton

The Pattern yarn calculations :

16 inches in reed plus 2 inches take-up = 18 inches per pick   x 16 PPI   = 288 yds/yd x 6.5 = 1872 yards

For 13 squares - 1872 Total Yards pattern yarn - 144 yards per square.

if you are going to crochet, you will need twice as much - 3684 Total wool pattern yarn and crochet.
